Since its foundation in 1976, Lama Tzong Khapa Institute has grown to become one of the most important centres in Europe.
The Institute is a legally recognised religious organisation. Its Statute has been registered in the Register of Non-Profit Organisations (ONLUS) since 20/03/17 under no. 20776 – Tax Code 90043410506.
Lama Tzong Khapa Institute is part of the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT), one of the largest networks of Buddhist centres worldwide, comprising over 160 centres. The FPMT was founded in 1970 by Lama Thubten Yeshe and Kyabje Thubten Zopa Rinpoche.
Our teachings follow the Mahayana Buddhist tradition according to the Tibetan Gelug school, founded by Lama Tsongkhapa. The most widely recognised representative of the Gelug school is His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. In observance of His guidance, the Institute excludes from all its activities the practice of Shugden.
The Institute is also a member of the Italian Buddhist Union (UBI), a legally recognised religious body (D.P.R. 3 January 1991). UBI brings together centres, foundations, temples, and monasteries belonging to the Theravada, Mahayana, and Vajrayana traditions, and is affiliated with the European Buddhist Union (E.B.U.).
