For the occasion of the 84th birthday of His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama, the Tibetan Community Italy, in collaboration with the Istituto Lama Tzong Khapa, would like to invite you to celebrate in this special event on July 6th and 7th. This extraordinary event will also have the participation of the Sikyong Central Tibetan Administration Dr. Lobsang Sangay.
We are honored to be able to offer this program in the year of the 600th anniversary of the parinirvana of the great Master Je Tzong Khapa, founder of the Gelug school.

PROGRAM

Saturday, July 6

• 10:15am Puja for His Holiness led by Ven. Geshe Tenzin Tenphel. There will be the possibility to offer a kata to the portrait displayed on the throne of His Holiness. In the courtyard, after the ceremony, we will take part in the traditional, auspicious flour throwing and traditional Tibetan group dance. Afterwards, the Tibetan community will continue the celebration, privately, in Pomaia.

Sunday, July 7

• 1:30pm Welcome ceremony as required by Tibetan protocol and culture.
• 1:30-2:30pm Lunch break
• 3:00-4:00pm From the roof of the world to the heart of humanity: message from Tibet. Conference and meeting with Sikyong Dr. Lobsang Sangya, Mr. Chhimey Rigzen (His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s representative for Central and Eastern Europe), Namgyal Soepa (President of the Tibetan Community Italy), local institutions, professors of the University of Pisa, leaders of the Pro-Tibet Association and members of the Tibetan community.
• 4:30-5:30pm Public speech by Sikyong Lobsang Sangay.

The current Sikyong, Dr. Lobsang Sangay, was democratically elected by Tibetans in India and around the world to be the Kalon Tripa of Tibet.
The direct election of the the Kalon Tripa ended the custom in which the Dalai Lamas, through the institution of the Ganden Phodrang, held both the temporal and spiritual authority of Tibet. In 2011, His Holiness officially retired and entrusted political power to the elected government.
In September, 2012, the Tibetan Parliament in exile approved the title change from Kalon Tripa to Sikyong.
Sangay was born in 1968 in a refugee community in Darjeeling, India. After graduating from the Tibetan school in Darjeeling, Sangay received his B.A. (Hons) and LL.B. degrees from the University of Delhi in India.
In 1995, he was offered a scholarship at Harvard Law School, USA, where he received his degree in the same year and remained for 15 years after.
He is an expert in human rights and Tibetan and international law.
