Collected Topics (Düra)

Main topics of Buddhist logic

ON SITE AND ONLINE

The retreat will be offered in Italian language only. Thank you

In this course, a general overview of Collected Topics (Düra) will be presented.
Collected Topics constitutes a genre of philosophical literature introduced in Tibet by Chapa Chökyi Senge in the 12th century, aiming to present the main arguments of Buddhist logic in a simple and systematic way. Nowadays it is still studied and debated at the beginning of the academic curriculum in large Tibetan monastic universities, where it serves as the basis for later study of the great treatises.
The course will cover the most important topics contained in the various Collected Topics texts: existent phenomena and non-existents, permanent and impermanent, isolates, causes and effects, particularities and generalities, related phenomena and mutually exclusive phenomena, definitions and definienda, positive phenomena and negative phenomena.
The purpose of the course will be to provide a general knowledge of these topics in order to better understand them when mentioned in more advanced studies and to have a general introduction to the Buddhist path of reasoning.
