Per darvi una veloce descrizione, l’Istituto Lama Tzong Khapa, Centro per lo studio e la pratica del buddismo tibetano, è nato come Associazione religiosa nel 1978 e adesso è un Ente di Culto civilmente riconosciuto dallo stato italiano, affiliato all’Unione Buddhista Italiana e membro della Fondazione per la Preservazione della tradizione mahayana.

Dal 1978 ad oggi ha ospitato e organizzato molti insegnamenti con rinomati Maestri del buddhismo tibetano primo fra tutti, Sua Santità il Dalai Lama.
Lo scopo dell’Istituto è quello di preservare e diffondere la tradizione millenaria delle Università monastiche di Nalanda e, particolarmente, di Lama Tzong Khapa , attraverso lo studio dei grandi trattati e la trasmissione di insegnamenti in lingua originale, impartire da Maestri riconosciuti e qualificati. Questo tipo di studi possono essere trovati in alternativa solo in India, presso le Università monastiche.
Un esempio di quanto vi stiamo dicendo è rappresentato dai Programmi di studio pluriennali Master’s Program e Basic Program che si svolgono regolarmente presso l’Istituto.

Nell’evoluzione delle attività che l’Istituto oggi propone, ha influito molto il suggerimento di Sua Santità il Dalai Lama che direttamente e ripetutamente ha chiesto al Centro di ampliare la propria visione, mantenendo il legame con la tradizione ma allo stesso tempo sviluppando occasioni di confronto e dialogo, con tradizioni e culture diverse e, in particolare con il mondo accademico, avvalendosi delle potenzialità secolari che il buddhismo offre a beneficio dell’evoluzione dell’essere umano. Da questa visione nasce  la collaborazione tra l’Università di Pisa e l’Istituto.

To give you a quick description, the Lama Tzong Khapa Institute, a Center for the Study and Practice of Tibetan Buddhism, was founded as a religious association in 1978 and is now a Worship Body civilly recognized by the Italian state, affiliated with the Italian Buddhist Union and a member of the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition.

From 1978 to the present, it has hosted and organized many teachings with renowned Masters of Tibetan Buddhism first and foremost, His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
The purpose of the Institute is to preserve and propagate the thousand-year-old tradition of the Nalanda Monastic Universities and, particularly, of Lama Tzong Khapa , through the study of the great treatises and the transmission of teachings in the original language, given by recognized and qualified Masters. These kinds of studies can be found alternatively only in India, at monastic universities.
An example of what we are telling you is the multi-year Master’s Program and Basic Programs of study that are held regularly at the Institute.

In the evolution of the activities that the Institute offers today, the suggestion of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, who directly and repeatedly asked the Center to broaden its vision, maintaining the link with the tradition but at the same time developing opportunities for confrontation and dialogue, with different traditions and cultures and, in particular with the academic world, making use of the secular potential that Buddhism offers for the benefit of the evolution of human beings, has been very influential. From this vision was born the collaboration between the University of Pisa and the Institute.
